Gyðja Trondardottir

20 years old, The Faroe Islands

It was an old lady on the Faroe Islands that told Gyðja, that she, herself, had attended Suhr’s in the 1930’s, and Gyðja, who appreciates good food, thought that this would be a good way of gaining this knowledge herself.

-You won’t learn everything from studying. It is important for it to become second nature. I already know now, that I will never prefer buying rye bread. I will much rather bake it myself, or if I want pesto, I would also rather make it myself than buy it. It has become so much easier to live healthier now. Before, I didn’t think about how food was prepared, but when you are learning about the process it is very logical, and much less complicated than you think. I have learned so much here, because I have been an active part of the learning experience, as I have been able to see, do and participate in everything.

Gyðja is taking her second gap year since her high school graduation. Her plan is to take some supplementary high school courses, and to then study psychology or medicine in a few years.

-This school is a place where I feel at home. It is an alternative school, and so all the days are filled with interesting challenges, and good friends. My days spent at Madakademiet are something that will affect me for the rest of my life. Attending Madakademiet is a unique experience, where you will get to know yourself much better.
