Ásgrímur/Ausi Einarsson
21 years old, Iceland
Ausi’s grandmother had attended a similar school in Norway but Ausi himself chose to apply in Denmark because he had had Danish in middle school and high school, and thought that it was about time to use the language for something reasonable. Ausi attended Madakademiet last year.
-I had thought about taking a break after I graduated from high school, but when I discovered this hidden gem in the middle of Copenhagen, I couldn’t get the school out of my head.
The language was not an obstacle from Ausi but the alternative teaching style was very different from anything he had experienced in his old school.
-I had never experienced before that the teaching was dependent upon how satisfied I was, and how much knowledge I had gained. That was an eye-opener.
-Even though one could assume that it is only about food and learning how to iron, these are only the minor elements in the education at Suhr’s. The most important lessons I learned at the school, are those that swam in between the basics, but are also the ones that create the bigger picture. That’s the only way I can explain it. What I remember the most is the Madakademiet's “Lean budget week”, which was a great challenge for me. And, of course, all the fun that was had! – I especially remember my first day in the kitchen, where I was suppose to peel 12 cloves of garlic, but misunderstood this, and peeled 12 whole garlic instead. Ausi lived at the Madakademiet boarding school for most of his semester at Madakademiet. Currently, he is studying German at the University of Iceland.
